Prices

What a new kitchen actually costs

Almost nobody in this trade publishes prices. We do, because the alternative is three home visits before you find out you were never in the right bracket, and that wastes your evenings as much as ours.

Where people start

  • Every website says 'prices from' and none of them say prices to.
  • You have had quotes 300% apart and no way to tell which one is realistic.
  • You need a budget figure before you can decide whether to do the job at all.
  • You have been quoted a price and then found VAT was not in it.

Where they end up

  • A real range, taken from jobs we have actually done, before anybody visits.
  • A clear account of what pushes a kitchen towards the top of that range.
  • No VAT to add, because the company is not VAT registered.
  • A written price after the measure, with a 10% deposit and nothing else up front.

How the job runs

Step by step, and nothing owed until step three.

  1. 01

Work out roughly where you sit

Use the ranges below and the list of what moves the price. Most people can place themselves within a couple of thousand pounds in about five minutes.

  2. 02

    Free home visit

    About an hour

Arshdeep measures and looks at what is behind the existing kitchen, which is where the surprises live. No charge and no obligation.

  3. 03

    A written price

Broken down by units, worktop and fitting, with anything excluded stated. A 10% deposit books the dates and the balance is due on completion. We do not offer finance.

The numbers

Ranges, from jobs actually done.

A single fixed price on a bespoke job is a guess dressed up as a promise. These are the brackets ours land in.

Fitted kitchen, supplied and installed

£2,000to£15,000

Included

  • Design visit and drawing
  • Units, doors and ironmongery
  • Worktops
  • Removal of the old kitchen
  • Full installation

Not included

  • Appliances
  • Gas and certified electrical work
  • Plastering, flooring and tiling

This is the range our kitchens actually fall in. Where a job sits inside it is decided mostly by the worktop, the number of tall units and how much making-good the room needs.

Smaller pieces of work

£200to£2,000

Included

  • Replacement doors and drawer fronts
  • Worktop replacement
  • Adding or altering a run of units

Not included

  • Full strip-out

£200 is the smallest job we will take on. Below that the travel and the setup cost more than the work.

The largest kitchen we have completed

£15,000to£30,000

Included

  • Large room with an island
  • Stone worktops throughout
  • Extensive tall and larder cabinetry

Not included

  • Appliances

£30,000 is our biggest job to date, not a ceiling. It is here so you can see the whole span rather than only the comfortable middle.

No VAT to add, because the company is not VAT registered. 10% deposit to book the dates. The balance is due when the job is finished. We do not offer finance.

What we work with

  • Quartz, granite, porcelain, laminate and solid timber worktops
  • In-frame and handleless doors in painted MDF and oak veneer
  • Blum and Hettich runners and hinges

The guarantee

12 months from completion on the units we supplied and on our fitting.

Insurance

Fully covered by public liability insurance.

What moves the number, in order

The worktop. The single biggest variable. Laminate to quartz on the same kitchen can be a difference of several thousand pounds, and it is a decision you can make late.

Tall units. A tall or larder unit is roughly twice the cost of a base unit. Almost everyone wants one more than they first planned.

The room behind the kitchen. Once the old units come off the wall you find out what the wall is like. Plaster that has to come off, a floor that never got levelled, pipework running where the new sink wants to go. This is the part no quote can be honest about in advance, which is why the visit matters.

The doors. Last, not first. Door style changes the look completely and the price surprisingly little.

Why so few fitters publish this

Because a published price can be undercut, and because every kitchen is different enough to give you a reason not to. Both are true and neither is a good enough reason to make you sit through three sales visits to learn which bracket you are in.

The ranges above are from jobs actually done. Yours will land somewhere inside them, and after an hour in your kitchen we can tell you where.

Common questions

Asked often enough to answer here.

What actually decides where in the range my kitchen lands?

Three things, in order. The worktop: quartz and granite can be several thousand pounds more than laminate on the same layout. The number of tall units: they cost roughly twice a base unit and people always want more than they planned. And the state of the room behind the old kitchen, which nobody can price until it is off the wall.

Is VAT included in these figures?

There is no VAT to include. Signature Kitchen & Bedrooms is not VAT registered, so what you are quoted is what you pay. Against a VAT-registered firm that is a fifth of the job value, which on a £10,000 kitchen is £2,000.

What deposit do you take?

10%, payable before work starts, which books the dates and covers the order. The balance is due when the job is finished. We do not ask for staged payments on a job of this length and we do not offer finance.

Why are other quotes so much higher?

Usually overheads. A firm with a showroom, a sales team and a marketing budget has to recover all of it, and it comes off the same job. We have none of those, which is the whole reason the numbers here look like this.

Do these prices include appliances?

No. Appliances vary so widely that including them would make the range meaningless. Most people buy their own, and we are happy to tell you what will fit before you do.

Can you work to a fixed budget?

Yes, and it is a sensible way to start. Tell Arshdeep the number at the visit and he will tell you what it buys in your room, honestly, including if the answer is that it does not stretch to what you have described.

What if the price changes once you have started?

It should not, unless something is found behind the old kitchen that nobody could see: a wall that needs rebuilding, pipework in the wrong place, a floor that has to come up. If that happens you are told and given a figure before any extra work is done, not after.
