About Hayes
Why the joinery here is not the joinery two towns over.
Hayes is home. The business is based at Hanover Circle in UB3, and most of UB3 and UB4 was built out between the wars and just after, when the factories along the canal and the railway, EMI's among them, needed people living close by. What that left is street after street of 1930s semis and short terraces around Hayes End, Yeading and Wood End, and large post-war council estates, a good share of them now privately owned and being properly done up for the first time.
Those houses set the job. The bedrooms are a sensible size but plain, and the walls have usually been skimmed and patched by several owners. In a fair number of them the chimney breast has already come out, and where it has, a wall that was a fireplace forty years ago does not hold a fixing the way the brick either side of it does. That is worth knowing before anything is drawn, not on the morning of the fit.
Harlington, down towards the airport, is older in places, with the village core round the church and houses right under the flight path, many fitted with acoustic glazing through Heathrow's insulation schemes. At the other end of the scale are the flats that have gone up around Hayes and Harlington station since the Elizabeth line arrived.

A wardrobe is measured once and fitted once, but there is nearly always a question in between: a socket that has moved, a skirting deeper than it looked, a window that turns out to open further into the room than anyone remembered. Yes. The partition walls in newer flats are usually metal stud rather than brick, so the fixings are planned onto the studs or into a frame rather than into plasterboard alone. It is checked on the visit, along with ceiling height.
Do you fit kitchens in Hayes as well?
