What it costs to have a kitchen fitted

You have bought the kitchen. Now somebody has to fit it, and the number the supplier quoted for that made your eyes water. This is what it should cost.

Where people start

  • The supplier's recommended fitter quoted more than the kitchen did.
  • The units are in your front room and you need a date, not an estimate.
  • You do not know whether strip-out and disposal is included in anybody's price.
  • You have been quoted a day rate and have no idea how many days it will take.

Where they end up

  • A fixed price for the fit rather than a day rate that runs on.
  • A clear list of what is and is not in it, including the skip.
  • A check that what you have bought will actually fit, before we start.
  • 12 months on the fitting.

How the job runs

Step by step, and nothing owed until step three.

  1. 01

    Send the plan

Photographs of the room and the supplier's plan are usually enough for a price. Arshdeep is checking two things: how much work the room needs, and whether the kitchen you have been sold fits it.

  2. 02

    A fixed fitting price

For the labour, with strip-out, disposal and anything we would need to buy listed separately so you can see what you are choosing.

  3. 03

    The fit

Typically 4 to 10 working days

One job at a time until it is finished, with the room cleared down each evening.

The numbers

Ranges, from jobs actually done.

A single fixed price on a bespoke job is a guess dressed up as a promise. These are the brackets ours land in.

Fitting a kitchen you have supplied

£900to£5,000

Included

  • Installing base, wall and tall units
  • Hanging and adjusting all doors and drawers
  • Fitting laminate or timber worktops
  • End panels, fillers and plinths, scribed
  • Clearing down daily

Not included

  • Strip-out and disposal of the old kitchen
  • Gas and certified electrical work
  • Stone worktop templating and fitting, which the stone supplier carries out
  • Tiling, flooring and plastering

A small galley sits at the bottom and a large kitchen with an island and a lot of tall units at the top. The state of the room matters as much as the size of the kitchen.

Smaller pieces of work

£200to£900

Included

  • Fitting a run of units
  • Replacing a worktop
  • Hanging and adjusting doors on an existing kitchen

Not included

  • Full installation

£200 is the smallest job we take on.

No VAT to add, because the company is not VAT registered. 10% deposit to book the dates. The balance is due when the job is finished. We do not offer finance.

What we work with

  • Any supplier's units: Howdens, Wren, Magnet, IKEA, Benchmarx and the rest
  • Replacement Blum and Hettich runners and hinges where the originals are poor

The guarantee

12 months on the fitting. If a door drops or a joint opens, we come back.

Insurance

Fully covered by public liability insurance.

What fitting actually involves

People think of a kitchen fit as putting boxes on a wall. The time goes elsewhere.

Levelling the run off the highest point of an uneven floor. Scribing end panels to walls that are not flat. Cutting and joining worktops so the join does not open in a year. Hanging every door and then going back and adjusting all of them once the carcasses have settled.

That last one is what separates the two jobs you can buy for similar money.

The extras that catch people out

Strip-out and disposal. Priced separately by almost everyone, including us. Ask, on every quote you get.

Stone worktops. Templated and fitted by the stone supplier, not by the kitchen fitter. That is normal and it is a separate invoice.

Certified electrical work. Anything needing a certificate goes to a qualified electrician. We coordinate it rather than leaving you to.

Making good. Plastering, tiling and flooring are separate trades. A fitter who says they will “sort” all of it for nothing is going to sort it badly.

Common questions

Asked often enough to answer here.

Is taking the old kitchen out included?

No, it is priced separately, and deliberately so. Some people want to sell or reuse their old units, some want a skip, and there is no sense charging everybody for the most expensive version.

Do you charge a day rate or a fixed price?

A fixed price for the job. A day rate puts all the risk on you and none on us, which is the wrong way round when we are the ones who decide how quickly the work goes.

What if the kitchen does not fit?

You are told before we start, which is why we ask to see the plan first. Most of the time it is solved with a filler or a modified unit. Where it needs the supplier to send something different, we tell you exactly what to ask for.

Is the stone worktop in your price?

No. Stone and quartz are templated after the base units are in and fitted by the stone supplier, who carries their own insurance for it. We coordinate the templating and check that what they measure is what you want.

Do you fit kitchens you did not supply?

That is what this page is about. There is no supplier we refuse to work with and no penalty for having bought elsewhere.

How far do you travel?

About fifty miles from Hayes, covering most of West London, Middlesex, Surrey, Berkshire and Hertfordshire.

The next step

An hour, a drawing, and one price. None of it costs you anything.
